Wellesley Crew Participates in Community Outreach with Special Olympics

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Wellesley College crew team participated in a community outreach program sponsored by the NCAA as part of the 2012 Division III Rowing Championships. Several members of the Blue joined with other NCAA teams to spend a day with Special Olympic Athletes.

Four volunteers from each represented team at the NCAA Championship were paired with three Special Olympians. The team members introduced them to the equipment, gave them an erg tutorial and then participated in team relays. The four Wellesley student-athletes that participated were senior Susan Laves, and first-years Graeme DurovichEmma Reuder and Claire Tam.

NCAA Division III has partnered with the Special Olympics since 2011. The purpose of the partnership is to improve the lives of Special Olympics athletes through their involvement with Division III student-athletes and to foster a mutual learning experience between Division III student-athletes and Special Olympics athletes.
