Blue Crew Opens NCAA Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The Wellesley College crew team had a successful day one of racing, to open the 2012 Division III Rowing Championships on Thursday. Blue boats raced three times on the day, with both the varsity eight and the second varsity eight advancing to the grand finals.

In the early heats, Wellesley's varsity eight earned an automatic spot in the grand final, with a third place finish. The Blue recorded a time of 7:03.92, finishing behind Bates (7:02.55) and Williams (6:55.89). 

The second varsity eight took fourth in their opening heat, sending the crew to the afternoon's repechage. The Blue then finished second to only Trinity in the semifinal, to advance to the grand finals of the second varsity competition. In the heats, the Blue recorded a fourth place time of 7:35.33. In the repechage, the team recorded a time of 7:17.37. 

Action continues at Lake Mercer tomorrow at 11:20am. The second varsity boat will race in their grand final at 11:20, followed by the varsity eight grand final at 11:55am. The awards ceremony will begin at 12:30pm.
