Blue Crew Opens Season with Strong Races in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Wellesley College crew team opened the 2012-13 racing season with an outstanding performance at the Snake Regatta on Worcester's Lake Quinsigamond. The event featured one race with 48 competitors.

Wellesley first varsity boat took second place overall, first among Divsion-III teams. The Blue recorded a time of 15:33.89, over 14 second faster than third place Bates, the 2012 NCAA Runner-up team. Wellesley was also just over three seconds off the pace of Division-I Holy Cross, who won the race in 15:29.66.

The Blue's second varsity boat finished fifth overall and was the fastest 2V in the race. The Blue recorded a time of 15:56.18 and topped several varsity eight boats along the way.

Wellesley's third varsity boat also had a strong finish, recording a time of 17:04.89. The Blue boat took 19th overall and recorded the fastest third varsity time on the day.

Wrapping up the action, both of Wellesley's novice boats had solid races. The first novice boat finished in a time of 18:13.18, while the second boat recorded a 20:41.26.

Wellesley crew returns to the water next weekend at the 2012 Head of the Charles Regatta. The Blue will race in the collegiate 4+ event on Saturday at 3:55pm, and in the collegiate 8+ event on Sunday at 4:00pm.
