BOSTON, Mass. – The Wellesley College crew team won the 2012 Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday, using a dominant effort to secure the program's fourth-straight title. The event, hosted by Simmons College on the Charles River, featured two varsity races and two novice races.

The Blue finished with 40 total points, topping Simmons (28) and Mount Holyoke (28), who tied for second. Smith (24) and Bryn Mawr (9) rounded out the field. With the team victory today, Wellesley's class of 2013 finishes a four-year sweep of the title, keeping the Founder's plate in Wellesley for another year.

Wellesley won both of the varsity races, and then took first in both novices races to complete the sweep.

In the first varsity race, Wellesley finished first out of five boats with a time of 12:35. Simmons took second in 12:51, while Smith placed third in 12:57.

The Blue had two boats entered into the second varsity race, as Wellesley's 2V took first and the 3V placed fifth. The 2V finished in a time of 13:06, out-distancing second-place Smith by 25 seconds. Wellesley's 3V clocked in at 14:03, topping the second varsity boats from Simmons, Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr.

Wellesley's first novice boat raced to a tie with Mount Holyoke's first novice boat, each crew recording a time of 14:08 in the five-boat field. Simmons took third in the race in 14:37. The Blue's boat featured student-athletes with no previous rowing experience, while several of the other boats in the race were made up of recruited rowers with high school or club experience.

In the other novice race, Wellesley's second boat took first place. Early calculations had Wellesley taking seventh, but after a review, the Blue earned first place to finish off the total sweep of the event. Wellesley's third novice boat took third place, while the fourth novice boat finished seventh overall.
