Wellesley Crew Races #1 Williams and #3 William Smith

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The #5 Wellesley College crew team raced against tough competition on Saturday morning, traveling to Saratoga Springs to take on #1 Williams College, #3 William Smith College, and Division-I UNH. 

Wellesley's varsity eight had a solid race, coming out fast and leading after the first 250. A mishap with UNH steering into the Blue's lane cost Wellesley some time, but the boat recovered to finish just 10 seconds behind Williams and 5.5 back from William Smith.

In the second varsity race, it came down to the last stroke to determine third and fourth and Wellesley was edged by William Smith by a hair. Williams came in first in the race, followed by UNH in second.

The Blue's third varsity boat finished third overall, with under seven seconds separating first through third places. Williams won the race in a time of 7:22.9, followed by William Smith with a 7:24.6 and Wellesley in 7:28.6.

In the novice race, Wellesley ranked third out of four crews, sitting closely behind Wiliams and William Smith, while topped UNH by 18 seconds. The Blue were just 7.3 seconds behind Williams and only a half of a second behind William Smith. 

Wellesley is back in action on Saturday, April 13th, traveling to Medford to battle Tufts University.
