Wellesley Crew Races at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The fifth-ranked Wellesley College crew team raced against nationally-ranked competition at Tufts University this morning, squaring off against #4 Bates, #6 Wesleyan, and #12 Tufts.

The Blue advanced to the finals in all of the varsity races, while winning the novice eight event.

In varsity eight action, Wellesley earned a spot in the finals with a victory over Wesleyan. The Blue recorded a 6:59.85 to Wesleyan's 7:04.26. In the finals, Wellesley squared off against Bates, with the Bobcats topping the Blue, 6:57.96 to 7:03.31.

The second varsity eight boat also advanced to the finals with a preliminary heat win over Wesleyan. The Blue recorded a time of 7:25.04, while Wesleyan finished in 7:33.7. In the finals, Bates again topped the Blue, recording a 7:13.59 to Wellesley's 7:24.6.

In the third varsity event, the Blue raced a mix of varsity and novice rowers. The boat topped Wesleyan 7:20.19 to 7:24.95, but fell to Bates in the finals, 7:11.83 to 7:30.06.

Wellesley's novices competed in just one race, a final against Tufts. The Blue came out on top in the race, recording a time of 7:35.242, while Tufts finished in 7:49.83.

The Blue have little time to rest, as the team is back in action tomorrow at Lake Quinsigamond. Races will begin at 10:50am.
