Crew, Softball, Track & Field Continue Title Pursuits This Weekend

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College crew, softball and track & field will all take part in championship competition this weekend, Friday-Sunday, May 6-8. Updates from all of the events will be posted throughout the day on WellesleyBlue.com and on twitter.com/WellesleyBlue. Schedule details are available below. 

Track & Field • New England Division III Outdoor Championships (Springfield, Mass.)

Qualified participants from Wellesley track & field will compete at the New England Division III Championships this Friday and Saturday at Springfield College. The top-eight in each event will garner all-region recognition, with meet scoring extending through eight places in each event. Field events are three attempts in the prelims, with the top nine advancing to finals.  

Friday, May 6 at Springfield:

Softball • NEWMAC Softball Championship Tournament (Worcester, Mass.)

After falling to Babson 5-2 on the opening Friday of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament, Blue softball returned on Saturday to defeat Wheaton, 8-6, and Babson, 9-5, in back-to-back elimination games to advance to day three of the tournament this Saturday, May 7.

The fifth-seeded Blue will take on second-seeded MIT at 12:00 PM at WPI for the right to advance to the 2:00 PM game versus top-seeded WPI. Should Wellesley defeat MIT, the Blue will need two wins to claim the title, as WPI is undefeated in the double-elimination format. If Wellesley wins two games on Saturday, a winner-take-all NEWMAC title game would take place on Sunday at 1:00 PM at WPI.

Day Three – Saturday, May 7 at WPI: 

Game 9 – No. 5 Wellesley vs. No. 2 MIT – 12 PM

Game 10 – No. 1 WPI vs. Winner of Game 9 – 2 PM 

Day Four - Sunday, May 8 at WPI (if necessary):

Game 11 – If Necessary Game – 1 PM

 

Crew • ECAC/NIRC (Worcester, Mass.)

After capturing the overall points title and first place in the Second Varisty and Novice Eight events at the New England Rowing Championships, Blue Crew will set its sights on the ECAC/National Invitational Rowing Championship on Sunday, May 8. The ECAC/NIRC will take place on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester beginning at 8:00 AM. There is a $10 admission fee for Sunday's races, the complete schedule is listed below:
