Blue Set New Program Record in Second Place Finish at Head Of The Charles

BOSTON, Mass. -- Keeping with their trend in 2019 and 2021, the Wellesley Varsity Eight took second place in the Collegiate Women's Eights at the 2022 Head Of The Charles Regatta (HOCR) on Sunday, October 23, on the Charles River in Boston. In addition to tying their program best second place, the Blue broke their previous fastest time record from 2019.

The Wellesley's Varsity Eight Crew ended the race with a time of 16:40.742. The winning school, Division I Mercyhurst University, clocked in just a few seconds ahead at 16:32.228. The Blue had three entries in ths year's race for the first time in several years.

Wellesley's Second Varsity Eight (Bow 11) cracked the top 10, finishing in eighth place with a time of 17:02.676 in the Women's Collegiate Eights, an improvement of over a minute from last year's Wellesley Second Varsity Eight at the HOCR. The Blue have now had a crew in the top-ten of the Women's Collegiate Eights in eleven of the last twelve years. Wellesley's Third Varsity Eight (Bow 30) finished in 33rd place with a time of 18:26.440.

Founded in 1965, the HOCR is a three-day rowing event featuring many of the top rowers, teams and clubs from around the world. The Sunday event will close out the fall season for the Wellesley crew team.
