WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Elina Saab-Sundén (Stockholm, Sweden) scored a pair of second half goals to lift Wellesley College soccer to a 2-0 NEWMAC victory over Wheaton College on Friday afternoon at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

Following a scoreless first half, Saab-Sundén scored twice in a span of nine minutes to help the Blue (2-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 NEWMAC) take a 2-0 edge over the Lyons (3-4-1 overall, 1-2-0 NEWMAC). The pair of goals were the first and second of the season for Saab-Sundén.

Saab-Sundén corralled a pass from senior Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.) before taking a touch and shooting the ball past Wheaton sophomore goalkeeper Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) for the first goal at 56:37. Saab-Sundén then broke free down the left side of the field before finishing again at 65:46 for the second Wellesley goal.

The Blue ended the contest with a 20-14 advantage in shots as Bandrup made nine saves for Wheaton. Sophomore Sascha Fleesler (New York, N.Y.) turned back all seven shots she faced in the Wellesley goal to earn the shutout win.

Up next, the Blue head to Curry to face the Colonels on Wednesday, September 27 at 4:00 PM. The Lyons face Endicott on the road at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 26.
