Blue Tennis Wraps Up Play at the Morehouse Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Wellesley College tennis closed out the opening weekend of the fall season with 13 matches on Sunday at the 2021 Morehouse Invitational. The Blue picked-up three wins in singles play and came away winless in doubles match-ups. 

Doubles

Sophomores Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) dropped an 8-5 match to Williams' Yuu Ishikawa (Los Altos, Calif.) and Jenny Tian (Lake Mary, Fla.) as the Blue came away from the day winless in doubles play. Wellesley played five matches in total against the Ephs and Middlebury College.

Singles 

Alviar, Mu and first year Ashleigh Parlman (Acton, Mass.) each earned singles victories over opponents from Skidmore College as the Blue finished with a 3-5 mark in singles play. Alviar needed a tiebreaker to defeat Grace Truong (Burke, Va.). After taking the first set, 7-6 (3), she dropped a 6-1 final in the second set but managed to earn the victory with a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker. Parlman posted a solid 6-3, 6-2 victory over Katherine Almquist (Union Pier, Mich.). Mu's victory came in the first set when her opponent retired due to injury.  

The Blue will return to play next weekend, October 1-3 at the 2021 ITA Regionals, hosted this year by Bowdoin College.
