Wellesley's Stern Competes at NCAA Diving Regional

TROY, N.Y. -- Wellesley College first-year diver Maddie Stern completed a successful weekend of competition at the 2014 NCAA Division III Region 3 Diving Championships on Saturday. The two-day event was hosted by RPI.

Stern recorded a pair of 18th place finishes in her first appearance at the regional meet. The event ended a fantastic first-year of competition for the Phoenix, Arizona, native.

On Friday, Stern recorded a score of 401.50 competing 11 dives on the 3-meter board. Her highest scoring dive was an inward 1.5 somersault in the pike position, and she competed four dives with a degree of difficulty of at least 2.4. 

On Saturday, Stern hit a score of 377.50 with 11 dives on the 1-meter board. She recorded 44 points on her first dive of the night, an inward 1.5 somersault in the tuck position. Stern also scored 38.40 points on her forward 2.5 somersault in the tuck position, which carries a degree of difficulty of 2.4.

Stern recorded a pair of top-10 finishes at the NEWMAC Championships earlier this season. She also finished second on both boards at the 2014 Seven Sisters Championship, helping the Blue to their 17th-straight title.
