FAQs

What is SwimAmerica?

SwimAmerica is a national learn to swim program operated by the American Swimming Coaches Association through over 500 Program Directors at over 900 sites across the USA. It’s the state of the art learn to swim program in the world today. For more information, click here

Who can sign-up?

Swimmers of all ages and abilities are welcome to sign up for our swim lessons! Participants can expect to be trained in the fundamentals of swimming, introductory competitive swimming, and advanced competitive stroke techniques.

What level swimmer am I?

SwimAmerica follows an 11 level system designed to take children from non-swimming to competition ready. For a synopsis of each level and the key skills taught in each particular section, click here.

Do you offer make-up lessons?

There are NO makeups mid-session unless noted on the registration form. The instructors are all students and are very busy, as is the pool during lesson time. There is only ONE make up class per session, which is pre-scheduled.

What if my child is ill and cannot attend a lesson?

If your child is ill please do not come to campus. Please contact Head Coach Bonnie Dix (bdix@wellesley.edu) before returning to lessons.

If your child is ill for more than one class, we will attempt to make it up, but this is not always possible. If the instructor is ill, that lesson will be made up ASAP, and may need to be taught by another instructor. If your child is injured or develops a long term illness and needs to end lessons for the session, the lessons will be rolled forward to the next session or a pro-rated refund will be issued.

What should I do about schedule conflicts?

If your child needs to miss for a pre-scheduled conflict, please contact Head Coach Bonnie Dix (bdix@wellesley.edu) prior to the start of lessons to see if we will be able to schedule a make up. If we can, we will. However, the students go into exams soon after the makeup week, and we may not be able to find a time. We will pro-rate the lesson if we do not have a wait list of students who can attend all sessions. If a makeup is not needed, the session can be extended for an additional $30 per 30 min lesson.

If desired, will siblings always be scheduled at the same time?

We will do our best to schedule siblings at the same time, but this can become challenging and even impossible as the lessons fill up, so please register quickly! Once we have matched a teacher with your child, they will send an email with the day/time slot and contact information.

What should I do if lessons are not going well?

The lessons are a team fundraiser. We enjoy teaching and hope your child (or you!) has a wonderful experience. If something is not going well, PLEASE contact Head Coach Bonnie Dix (bdix@wellesley.edu) so that we can address the situation.
