Blue Swimming & Diving Falls at No. 11 MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Wellesley College swimming & diving dropped a 213-84 decision to host and nationally ranked No.  11 MIT on Friday evening in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) dual meet at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center. 

The Engineers won 14 of 16 events to hand the Blue their first dual meet defeat of the season. 

Wellesley first year diver Maura Sticco-Ivins won both the one meter and three meter events to earn both of the Blue's victories in the meet. Sticco-Ivins scored 267.90 in the one meter event, finishing ahead of classmate Emily Moore who tallied a score of 234.80. Sticco-Ivins and Moore then finished one-two in the three meter event, tallying scores of 260.70 and 255.00, respectively. 

The Blue also grabbed second place finishes in three events on the evening. Junior Dorothy Ren was narrowly defeated in the 100-Fly. Ren finished with a time of 58.97, just tenths of a second behind MIT's Margaret Guo at 58.11.

The Blue's 200-Medley Relay team of sophomore Sharon Wu, junior Dorothy Ren, junior Charlotte Harris and senior Keelin Nave clocked in at 1:50.12, finishing behind the MIT 'A' Team at 1:47.44.

Sophomore Leah Furman also touched the wall in second place in the 200-Free. Furman finished with a time of 1:57.13, behind MIT's Emmie Ryan at 1:55.68.

Wellesley swimming and diving will return to MIT for its next competition as the Engineers will host the MIT Winter Invitational from December 5-7.
