Blue Swimming & Diving Opens Three-Day MIT Winter Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving opened the annual three-day MIT Winter Invitational on Friday evening, competing in three events at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. 

The Blue are currently in fourth place in the nine team field, having amassed 52 points. Columbia University leads with 152 points, followed by NYU (140), host MIT (134) and the Blue.

Competition started with the 800-Free Relay, as the Blue's 'A' team of senior Charlotte Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio), first year Jessica Feng (Princeton, N.J.), first year Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) and senior Ieva Galinyte (Irvine, Calif.) raced to the eleventh fastest time of 7:54.02 in the field of 25.  

Wellesley's 'B' team of first year Karen Wang (Holmdel, N.J.), sophomore Fiona Chung (Lexington, Mass.), sophomore Patricia Chen (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Lindsey Wu (Livingston, N.J.) finished 18th in the 800-Free Relay with a time of 8:11.32.

Galinyte had a busy evening, as the senior also returned to compete in the 1650 Yard Free. She finished in eleventh place in the distance event with a time of 18:04.75.

In 1-meter diving, sophomores Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) and Emily Moore(Milwaukee, Wis.) helped the Blue secure a one-two sweep of the event with scores of 296.23 and 271.76, respectively.

The MIT Winter Invitational will continue on Saturday, December 5, beginning with preliminary competition at 10:30 AM and continuing with finals at 6:00 PM. Event information, live results and video are available at the links below:
