Blue Swimming and Diving Breaks Two More Records In MIT Invitational Finale
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Wellesley College swimming and diving broke two school records as the Blue finished fourth at the MIT Invitational from Zesiger Center Pool on Sunday.
Tufts won the invitational with 1666 points, narrowly edging out host MIT with 1661.5. RPI placed third with 629, followed by the Blue in fourth with 556, ahead of Keene State (275), Simmons (129.5), and Emory (65).
Sunday was another record breaking day for the Blue with first Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) breaking another record, this time in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Sekhon finished second in the finals with a record-setting 2:21.55 performance.
Also notable was the 200 Yard Medley Relay team setting a new school record and placing second in the prelims with a time of 1:45.11, earning them an NCAA "B" cut. The team consisted of first years Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Sekhon, Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.), and junior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.). The team finished third in the finals behind Tufts and MIT with a time of 1:46.18.
Liu placed 12th in the 200 Yard Backstroke finals with a time of 2:09.22.
Cantrell placed seventh in the 200 Yard IM race, with an season best time of 2:08.77. First year Lara Dashti (Kuwait) earned a top ten finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, finishing ninth in the prelims. Dashti finished eighth in the finals with a personal best time of 2:25.53.
Sophomore Angela Zhu (Bayside, N.Y.). placed 11th in the 100 Yard Butterfly prelims with a time of 58.96. Classmate Cecilia Can (Palo Alto, Calif.) took 15th in the 100 Yard Butterfly finals. Mitsuoka finished 13th in the 100 Yard Freestyle finals with a 53.35 time. Classmate Julia Lucey (Old Greenwich, Conn.) was the top Blue finisher in the 500 Yard Freestyle prelims, with a time of 5:29.79.
The Blue closed out the weekend with Cantrell, Cai, Mitsuoka, and junior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) placing eighth in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, swimming a 3:36.69.
The Blue next compete on January 14th at the Sisters Invitational at Mount Holyoke.
