Blue Swimming and Diving Earns Two NCAA "B" Cuts on Saturday at NEWMACs

WORCESTER, Mass. - Wellesley College swimming and diving grabbed a pair of NCAA "B" cuts during day three of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at WPI on Saturday.

MIT maintained their first place lead with 887 points, followed by Wheaton (593), Springfield (506), Coast Guard (382.5), and then Wellesley with 356.5, slightly ahead of WPI (330). 

First year Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) bettered her program record time in the 100 Yard Backstroke during prelims with a 56.65 (earning a NCAA "B" cut) before coming in fourth in the finals with a time of 56.77.

Wellesley's 200 Yard Medley Relay A team of Liu, first years Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.), and junior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.)  also earned a NCAA "B" cut with a third place 1:43.98 time in the A finals. 

Taking fourth was Sekhon in the 100 Yard Breaststroke A Finals with a 1:05.19. Mitsuoka and first year Lara Dashti (Kuwait) placed seventh and eighth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with times of 1:06.52 and 1:06.69.

Sophomore Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) came in seventh in the 400 IM A finals with a time of 4:38.23. Meanwhile classmate Julia Lucey (Old Greenwich, Conn.) finished seventh in the B Finals of the same event with a season best 4:46.40 just ahead of teammates first year Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.), and junior Alice Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) with times of 4:47.11 and 4:52.58.

Junior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) took home fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle B Finals with a time of 1:58.26 and Cantrell earned 10th in the A Finals with a 1:58.65.

Sophomore JJ Kim (New Haven, Conn.) finished eighth with a 1:01.50 in the B Finals of the 100 Yard Butterfly.

The NEWMAC Championships will conclude tomorrow, beginning with a 10:00 AM session.
