Wellesley Swimming & Diving Victorious over Merrimack, Simmons

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving defeated Merrimack and Simmons on Saturday at Chandler Pool. The Blue won 223-47 over Simmons and 185-99 over Merrimack and Wellesley won 14 out of 17 events. 

Wellesley opened the day with first year Jaya Magavi (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) going 1-2 in 3 meter diving with scores of 239.80 and 239.75. The duo also went 1-2 in the same order in 1 meter diving, this time with scores of 252.50 and 245.95.

The Blue earned another win in the 400 Medley Relay, behind a time of 3:59.91 from sophomores Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), junior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) and senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.).

Merrimack came back to win the 1000 Free, with sophomore Neva Sa (Chelmsford, Mass.) winning with a time of 11:03.42. Wellesley first Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) placed second with a time of 11:38.24. Sa recorded a second victory in the 500 Free with a time of 5:26.08 to lead the pack.

The Blue won the 200 Free with sophomore Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.) winning with a time of 2:00.87. Cantrell later added the 100 Free to the Wellesley win column with a time of 55.06. Liu then made it back-to-back event wins for Wellesley with a time of 1:01.18 in the 100 Back.

Sekhon and sophomore Lara Dashti (Kuwait) went 1-2 in the 100 Breaststroke with respective times of 1:05.04 and 1:08.83. Sekhon and Dashti also had 1-2 finishes in the 200 Breaststroke, with times of 2:24.13 and 2:28.26.

Cai won the 200 Fly for the Blue with a time of 2:11.24 and Mitsuoka swam a 25.52 to clinch the 50 Free. Cai then doubled down by winning the 400 IM with a time of 4:44.20.

Wellesley senior Mira Tang (Mercer Island, Wash.) grabbed a win in the 200 IM with a leading time of 2:22.16. Classmate McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) picked up a win for the Blue in the 100 Fly by breaking the one minute mark with a personal-best time of 59.33.

Merrimack won the 200 Back, this time with first year Brooke Malvey racing out to a time of 2:12.92 for the Warriors.

Wellesley finished the day by winning the 200 Free Relay with senior Mona Li (Cary, N.C.), junior JJ Kim (New Haven, Conn.), Tang, and Cantrell narrowly defeating a fellow Wellesley team with a time of 1:42.22.

The Blue will next compete at Chandler Pool on Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 AM against Mount Holyoke. That meet will serve as a senior day for Wellesley. Simmons will host U. of New England and Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, November 11 at 12:00 PM and Merrimack returns to action on Friday, December 1 at WPI for the Gompei Invitational.
