Blue Swimming & Diving Remains Undefeated on Senior Day with 160-121 Win Over Mount Holyoke

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving cruised to a 160-121 victory over NEWMAC and Seven Sisters rival Mount Holyoke on Saturday morning at Chandler Pool. The Blue now hold a 4-0 record for the season.

Prior to the meet, Wellesley celebrated the team's six seniors in the Class of 2024, recognizing McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.), Maddie Hoesel (Kapp'a, Hawaii), Alice Johnson (Seattle, Wash.), Mona Li (Cary, N.C.),  Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.), and Mira Tang (Mercer Island, Wash.).

Sophomores Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), Lara Dashti (Kuwait) and junior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) helped the Blue set the tone for the day with a meet-opening victory in the 200 Medley Relay. The group finished in 1:49.72. Tang, first year Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.), Glanville and Mitsuoka were second with a time of 1:54.43.

Liu went on to earn Wellesley victories in both the 100 Back (1:01.63) and 200 Back (2:17.31), while Sekhon picked up a win in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:04.88 and Cai was first in the 200 Fly in 2:12.69. Mitsuoka (25.51) and Li (25.68) finished 1-2 in the 50 Free. Mitsuoka and Li also finished 1-2 in the 100 Free, with Mitsuoka winning in 56.05. Li finished in 56.36. 

Glanville, Dashti and sophomore Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) went 1-2-3 in the 200 IM for Wellesley. Glanville won the event in 2:12.89, followed by Dashti in 2:16.73 and Reich in 2:30.21. Glanville, Dashti and Reich each picked-up individual victories later in the meet. Glanville had the fastest time in 100 Fly (59.52), Dashti was first in 200 Breaststroke in 2:29.07 and Reich was first in the 500 Free in 5:57.60.

Wellesley first year diver Jaya Magavi (West Hartford, Conn.) was second to Mount Holyoke's Maddy Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) on both the one and three-meter boards. However, Magavi hit a regional qualifying mark by scoring 264.85 in 1-meter diving, in addition to scoring 226.85 in the 3-meter event.

First year Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) and senior Alice Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) earned a 1-2 Wellesley finish in the 200 Free, recording near matching times of 2:06.13 and 2:06.84, respectively. Weingarten was also the top competitor in the 400 IM with a mark of 5:00.71. 

Up next, Wellesley will compete at the MIT Invitational, beginning on Friday, December 1 at 6:00 PM. The Lyons next compete at the Don Richards Invitational, hosted by RIT in Rochester, N.Y. That meet will also begin at 6:00 PM on Friday, December 1.
