Blue Swimming & Diving's Sekhon Earns NCAA "B" Cut on Day Two of MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving sophomore Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned an NCAA "B" cut with a time of 1:03.40 in the 100 Breaststroke on day two of the MIT Invitational on Saturday at Al '51 & Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. The Blue are currently in fourth out of six teams.

Sekhon's 100 Breaststroke time tied her own 2022 program record, which she earned one year ago at the 2022 MIT Invitational.

Host MIT leads after two days with a team score of 949. Tufts is currently in second with a score of 723, followed by RPI (480), Wellesley (341), Keene State (142), and Simmons (95).

Sophomore Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) was third in the 100 Back "A" final with a time of 57.50 and senior Mira Tang (Mercer Island, Wash.) placed ninth with a time of 59.38. 

Junior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) earned eighth with a time of 2:09.52 in the "A" final of the 200 Fly while senior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) was sixth in the "B" final with a time of 2:10.60.

First year Joyce Kim (Houston, Texas) finished 20th overall in the 200 Free with a time of 2:02.10 in the finals. 

In addition to Sekhon, senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) competed in the 100 Breaststroke "A" final, placing 10th with a time of 1:09.21. Sophomore Lara Dashti (Kuwait) took third in the "B" final with a time of 1:07.03, while Glanville and senior Alice Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) took eighth and 10th in the "B" final with respective times of 1:08.87 and 1:11.58.

First year Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) finished third in the "B" final for the 400 IM event with a time of 4:56.58, and Johnson was just behind in fourth with a time of 4:58.00. First year Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) placed eighth with a time of 5:06.69.

Sophomore Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) and first year Jaya Magavi (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 11th and 12th in the 3-Meter Diving event with 11-dive scores of 348.10 and 345.70 respectively.

The Blue's "A" team of Sekhon, senior Mona Li (Cary, N.C.), Glanville, and Mitsuoka were seventh in the "A" final with a time of 1:39.27 while the "B" team of Dashti, junior JJ Kim (New Haven, Conn.),Tang, and Liu finished ninth with a time of 1:41.76.

Wellesley's "A" team of Liu, Sekhon, Glanville, and sophomore Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.) closed out the day by earning eighth in the 400 Medley Relay with a final time of 3:57.30.

The final day of the MIT Invitational starts at 10:00 AM tomorrow.
