Wellesley Swimming & Diving Captures First at Sisters Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving finished first out of five teams and earned 14 event wins at this weekend's Sisters Invitational, hosted by Mount Holyoke College.

Wellesley finished at the top of the team standings with 1229 points. Host Mount Holyoke claimed second with 950 points, followed by Smith (920), Simmons (450) and Western New England (99). The Blue led after one day of competition with 916 points. 

Sophomore Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) set a pool record on Saturday in the 50 Breaststroke with a time of 30.24. Sekhon and sophomore Lara Dashti (Kuwait) went 1-2 in the 100 Breaststroke with times of 1:07.30 and 1:09.44. The duo also earned the top two spots in the 200 Breaststroke on Sunday. Sekhon won with a time of 2:25.02, followed by Dashti with a time of 2:28.80. 

Junior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) snagged a 400 IM victory with a time of 4:41.72. Cai also won gold in the 500 Free with a winning time of 5:19.25. Cai earned a third win on Sunday with a time of 2:08.65 in the 200 Fly.

Senior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) was first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.52. Glanville later won the 100 Fly with a time of 58.89.

Senior Mira Tang (Mercer Island, Wash.) kept the Blue's winning ways going by taking the 100 Back with a time of 1:01.56. Tang was second in the 200 Back with a time of 2:13.34 and third in the 50 Fly with a time of 27.88.

Sophomore Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) had a time of 28.28 to earn first in the 50 Back event. Liu later finished third in the 100 Back with a time of 1:01.85.

Senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) had runner-up finishes in the 50 Free with a time of 25.67 and the 50 Breaststroke with a time of 31.54.

Sophomore Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.) swam a time of 2:15.93 to finish second to Glanville in the 200 IM. Additionally, Cantrell had a time of 2:03.14 to take third in the 200 Free race.

Senior Alice Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) had a pair of third place finishes. Johnson rounded out the top three with a time of 2:33.98 in the 200 Breaststroke and also took bronze in the 400 IM with a time of 5:03.05.

First year Jaya Magavi (West Hartford, Conn.) earned second in 1-Meter Diving. Magavi's score of 416.80 was only .2 off of Mount Holyoke's Maddy Sewll (Scottsdale, Ariz.). On Sunday, Magavi was third in 3-Meter Diving with a score of 361.55.  

The 200 Medley Relay team of Liu, Sekhon, Cantrell and Mitsuoka claimed the top spot with a winning time of 1:49.89.

Liu, Sekhon, Glanville and Cantrell teamed up to top the 400 Medley Relay with a winning performance of 4:03.28. The Blue squad of Tang, Dashti, Cai and Mitusoka claimed second place by swimming a time of 4:05.53.

Wellesley earned a victory in the 800 Free Relay. Mitsuoka, Johnson, Glanville and Cai won by over 10 seconds with a time of 8:07.22. The Blue also won the 400 Free Relay. Tang, Cai, Sekhon and Cantrell had a winning time of 3:44.44.

Next-up, Wellesley travels to Coast Guard for a 6:00 PM meet on Friday, January 26.
