Track & Field Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors; Three Named All-Academic Athletes

Wellesley College track & field has been named an All-Academic Team for the 2023 NCAA Division III Women’s Track & Field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Wellesley Track & Field Places Five on CSC Academic All-District Team

The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released the Academic All-District Women's Track & Field Team on Wednesday. Wellesley College track & field seniors Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.), Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.), and Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.). Junior Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Erin Dickinson (Omaha, Neb.) also received the honor. The award is given to athletes who in addition to being impactful on their respective team, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, and have achieved second year status at their academic institution.

Wellesley Track & Field's Whinney Earns All-American Honors at NCAA DIII Championships

Wellesley College track & field first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) finished eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase finals to earn All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at Polisseni Track and Field Complex. Whinney set a program record with a time of 10:37.97, breaking the previous record set by Leah Clement ‘12, who had a time of 10:41.09 in 2011. Whinney becomes the second runner in Wellesley track & field program history to earn All-American honors in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Grace Cowles ‘21 previously placed sixth in the event in 2019 to become an All-American.

Blue Track & Field's Whinney Qualifies for 3000m Steeplechase Finals at NCAA DIII Championships

Wellesley College track & field first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) finished third in her preliminary heat to advance to the 3000 meter steeplechase finals at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday night at Polisseni Track and Field Complex. Whinney set a new season best with a time of 10:41.39, finishing only .3 seconds off of Wellesley’s program record and with the eighth fastest time in qualifying.

Blue Track & Field's Ella Whinney Qualifies for 2023 NCAA DIII Track & Field Championships, May 25-27

Wellesley College track & field first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) was announced on Friday as an individual qualifier for the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships will take place from May 25-27 at Polisseni Track and Field Complex on the campus of St. John Fisher University in Rochester, N.Y. with St. John Fisher acting as the host institution.

Anderson, Murphy-Weise, Whinney Receive USTFCCA All-Region Award

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field All-Region recipients on Friday. Wellesley College track & field senior Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) was named USTFCCCA All-Region in the 10000 meter event while classmate Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) and first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) each earned the honor in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Friday marked the first time Wellesley had three team members make the USTFCCCA All-Region team.

Whinney Wins 3000m Steeplechase for Blue Track & Field at MIT Final Qualifier

First year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) nearly set a program record in the 3000 meter steeplechase for Wellesley College track & field in the MIT Final Qualifier at Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track. Whinney's won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:42.72, within two seconds of the Blue's program record. Senior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) had a personal-best time of 10:53.28 to earn third. Both Whinney and Murphy-Weise now hold top-25 times nationally for the 3000 meter steeplechase, with Whinney sitting in eighth at the time of this release.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released the 2023 Women's Track & Field Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday. The team included 17 members of Wellesley College track & field.Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2022 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Blue Track & Field's Whinney Third in 3000m Steeplechase at NEICAAA Outdoor Championship

May 13, 2023

First year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) and senior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) both earned points for Wellesley College track & field in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championship on Saturday  at Solomon Outdoor Track. The Blue earned 16 points as a team to tie for 20th. Rhode Island won the team competition with 92 points, followed by UMass Amherst (75), and Northeastern (60). Tufts was the top Division III team in fourth with 51 points.

Senior Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) and first year Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) ran in the 10000 meter race for Wellesley College track & field at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championship on Friday at Solomon Outdoor Track.

Wellesley Track & Field Finishes 17th at New England Division III Championship

Senior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) and first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) earned points on Saturday for Wellesley College track & field, who finished tied for 17th place at the New England Division III Championship at Blake Track & Field. MIT looked dominant with 135 points to win the New England Division III Championship. Tufts (75), Middlebury (67), Bowdoin (51), and Coast Guard (49) rounded out the top five.

Wellesley Track & Field’s Anderson Second in 10000m at New England Division III Championship

May 05, 2023

Senior Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) competed on Friday evening in the 10000 meter race for Wellesley College track & field in the New England Division III Championship held at Blake Track & Field. Anderson placed second in the 10000 meter event with a personal best time of 36:23.57 to earn eight points for the Blue. Anderson’s time currently ranks 25th this season in all of Division III. Day two of the New England Division III Championship is tomorrow. Wellesley’s first event will begin at 10:00 AM.

Ellie Murphy-Weise ’23 received a Watson Fellowship, which will allow her to travel to South Africa, Azerbaijan, China, Turkey, Germany, and other countries as she researches the intersection between contemporary opera and musical traditions around the world.

Blue Track & Field Takes Sixth at NEWMAC Championship

April 30, 2023

Wellesley College track & field earned multiple top-three finishes to place sixth in this year’s New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship hosted by MIT at the Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track. Host MIT claimed their 13th NEWMAC title on Sunday, leading the competition with 243.5 points. The Engineers were followed by Coast Guard in second with 138 points, and WPI in third with 135 points. Springfield (102), Babson (55), Wellesley (47), Wheaton (39), Smith (23.5), and Mount Holyoke (18) rounded out the field.

Wellesley Track & Field Sits in Seventh at NEWMAC Championship

Wellesley College track & field is currently tied for seventh after day one of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship hosted by MIT at the Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track. Host MIT sits in first with 82 points, trailed by Coast Guard (43), Springfield (31), WPI (12), Smith (10), Babson (8), Wellesley (4), Wheaton (4), and Mount Holyoke (1). First year Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) earned four points for Wellesley with a fifth place finish in the 10000 meter race and a personal best time of 39:09.37.

Wellesley Track & Field Wins Tri-Meet on Senior Day

Wellesley College track & field won its tri-meet against Smith and Mount Holyoke on Saturday at Butler Stadium.
