Peng, Chang Named ITA Scholar-Athletes, Tennis Earns All-Academic Team Honors

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced the 2020 Division III ITA Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams. Led by ITA Scholar-Athletes Selina Peng '20(Taichung, Taiwan) and Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.), the Wellesley College tennis program earned ITA All-Academic Team honors for the 2020 season.

The New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced the 2020 NEWMAC Women's Tennis Academic All-Conference Team. The NEWMAC women's tennis student-athletes totaled 38 selections this year, including Wellesley College senior Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) and sophomore Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.).

On March 13, a difficult decision was made to cancel the 2020 spring seasons for six Wellesley Athletics programs. Along with the cancellation of contests, practices and team events, the seniors in the Class of 2020 will miss the opportunity to celebrate Senior Day with their family, friends, coaches and teammates. Today we recognize Wellesley tennis and we hope you will join us in celebrating the spring student-athletes in the Class of 2020. Thank you, Seniors.

NEWMAC, Wellesley Recognizes Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

The New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has revealed the 2020 Spring All-Sportsmanship honorees and five Wellesley College student-athletes have been recognized among the conference's spring selections.

After opening the 2020 season unranked, Wellesley College tennis has entered the Oracle ITA Division III Women’s Team Rankings for the Week of March 13th.

Trailing 2-1 after doubles, Wellesley College tennis took five of the six singles matches to rally for a 6-3 non-conference victory over No. 20 Brandeis on Sunday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. With the win, the Blue improved to 2-3 overall while dropping the Judges to 1-5 on the season.

A furious comeback bid fell just short for Wellesley College tennis in a 5-4 setback to No. 32 Bates College in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Wellesley College tennis sophomores Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) have been named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis Doubles Team of the Week for the week ending March 1, 2020. The honor is the first NEWMAC Weekly Award for each player.

Blue Tennis Downs RPI For First Victory of the Season, 6-3

Sophomore Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) rallied for a three-set victory in the top singles match to help Wellesley College tennis clinch the team’s first victory of the season, 6-3, over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Sunday at the Tri-City Fitness courts.

No. 17 Skidmore tops Wellesley Tennis, 6-3

Wellesley College tennis dropped a 6-3 final to No. 17 Skidmore College on Saturday. The Blue trailed 2-1 after doubles play but dropped the first three matches in singles to fall to 0-2 overall. Skidmore is now 5-1 overall.

Wellesley College tennis dropped the team’s spring season opener, 6-3, to No. 40 The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Sunday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Sophomore Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea) won the D bracket to highlight the weekend for Wellesley College tennis, as the Blue finished play at the 2019 Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday.

Wellesley College tennis was in action throughout the day on Friday, competing in the 2019 Bowdoin Invitational in both singles and doubles matches. The doubles draw included 18 different pairings, while the singles tournament consisted of five brackets made-up of eight players each.

Three members of the Wellesley College tennis team opened the 2019-20 season on Friday at the 2019 ITA Division III Women's New England Regional Tennis Championship, hosted by Middlebury College. In all, 17 New England Division III schools were represented at the start of play on Friday.
